Tips & Tricks – Choose the right paper
Kraft brown, glossy white, bio (ecological) paper, with or without film: there are all sorts of possibilities for the composition of your bag. Choosing the right paper is an important part of the design process and we’re here to guide you through the options. Below you’ll find some tips to help you find your way in the world of paper bags:
1. What look is right for you?
2. What are you going to package?
1. What look is right for you?
The first question you can ask is what type of paper reflects your product’s image best? The different kinds of paper all make their own impression. Do you want to emphasise sustainability and the environment? In that case, you can opt for a bio (ecological) paper. Or are you looking for a modern look with a smart, colourful print? Then kraft white may be right for you. Below we offer some guidance. Of course, the paper only really comes into its own when your design is printed on it.

2. What are you going to package?
A second aspect for your attention is the product you intend to package. Different products need different types of paper. Here are some tips:
Flour
It’s best to opt for a rougher paper.
Tip: our paper is “machine glazed” (MG), which means that the inner side of the paper is rough and the outer side smooth. The rough inner surface allows air to escape easily when filling with a fine product such as flour. The smooth outer side is ideal for printing.
Useful tips
Coffee, granola, chocolate, crackers, pet food, etc
For these products, choose a greaseproof paper (KIT value 12).
You can also opt for a film or greaseproof paper on the inner side. This provides a barrier that allows no grease through and protects your products from moisture and air.
Colours
Remember that the paper is the medium for your colour, and can influence it. Naturally, printing on kraft white paper gives a different effect than printing on bio paper or kraft brown.
Bio paper
Did you know that the bio paper we use is made from recycled agricultural waste? You can find out more here.
PEFC
The paper we use is PEFC certified. That means that the wood from which the paper is made comes from a sustainably managed forest. Want to know more? Read our article here
